Bali Hugh's: Surf was down that night!

After Titanium Club & Ice Bar closed down some of my friends and I went to Bali Hugh’s Beach Bar & Grill where we witnessed idiotic and alcoholic behavior between the partners (which led to an Australian customer attacking one of the owners, putting him in a choke hold until he conked out and hit the floor). We tried to go to Penny Black but the police shut it down, though we did score one single beer somewhere I am not sure where it came from…

Come on Bangkok! Where can you get a 3 a.m. beer these days?!?

So we decided to go to an all night Thai place near my house called Baan Rie Coffee shop. Take a taxi, right? Hell no! Too damned easy! My friend Howard commandeered a tuk tuk and we (minus another friend, Elmar, who disappeared with some horizontal refreshment, though he didn’t tell any of us beforehand) were on our way…

In order to be a show off, Howard tried to prove we could do a wheelie. Mistake. But we found our wheelie success whenever it was unintended. Howard drove generally worse than a Thai tuk tuk driver, which led me to believe he’d done this before. There was a taxi with two lovelies in the back seat so we spent half our time chasing the taxi like a yard dog chases a car. Whenever we’d get close enough Howard or I would bang on their window. If looks could kill that taxi driver would be in prison this morning.

When we finally arrived at our destination we were refused alcohol even though the table behind me had a jug of beer and the table to my right had a bottle of whiskey. I think it had more to do with the Howard Worden show in the parking lot than any police regulations. Oh well…

After the remaining friends went on home and I found an open place still serving beer. A 24 hour dim sum shop next to my office of all places. I waited about an hour there for them to come back but they wouldn’t head my beckoning, the woosies!

On one particular night I wound up back at the Gary Dale hacienda with a guest rider. I don’t remember much about coming home (straight vodka can have that effect) but the next morning I was awaken by some bad breath beneath some sad eyes. I took the nudge as a kind reminder that my boarder was trying to earn her keep. She gave me a shake and said “Now?!?” So I rolled her over and obliged then fell back asleep. A bit later she was shaking me harder “Now?!?” Damn! Didn’t she know anymore words in English? My head was pounding but my ego was taking a pounding from this girl’s pleading, so again, I rolled her straight over and obliged. And went right back to sleep. A bit later, again, the scene was repeated but this time with much greater force and persistent clarity… “NOW?!?!?!?” She whined like a three year old nanny goat. “Okay, okay, you damned insatiable hussy!” So after finishing this time I didn’t go back to sleep. I bolted to the shower so I could start my day and shuffle this one on out the door. When I came out of the bathroom there she sat on the bed, all wrapped in the sheets and covers with a hurt look. She pointed at the thermostat and pleaded…

“NOW?!?!?!”

You guessed it. The whole time she was just telling me that she was cold!

Socialized Medicine for the Drunks

This morning Erik sent me this picture from Papua New Guinea. Was it a warning in case I go to Port Moresby?

Did Erik send me this because he thought it pertained to me?

Is it possible that I have met this New Guinean doctor before?

Wouldn’t the drunks kinda all be in the “After Hours” category?

What I want to know is if there is any discount if the doctor is the one drunk?

I have a German friend with a great sense of humor. His name is Thilo Krüger. He’s intelligent, witty, always quick with a joke and a light of the smoke. Then one day Thilo was in Bangkok visiting from Cambodia. We were exchanging jokes and I so told him this German joke…

Did you hear about the new Chinese restaurant with the German chef? It went broke already. Half-an-hour after finishing their meals the customers were hungry for power!

I guess it goes to show what they used to say at the Seoul H.A.S.H. was really true:

GERMAN JOKES ARE NO LAUGHING MATTER!

I guess maybe I should stick with my off beat Southern humor.
